How Free Proofs Work for Custom Apparel Orders

Short answer: a free proof is a digital mockup of your custom order showing the exact hat or garment, color, decoration method, logo size and placement. At Hobbs Peak you text or email your logo, the proof comes back usually the same or next business day, revisions are free, and nothing is made or charged until you approve it in writing.

The proof is the step that keeps custom orders from going wrong. Here is exactly how it works when you order custom hats or apparel from our shop in Temple, Georgia.

What your proof shows

  • The exact product and color, for example a Richardson 112 trucker in charcoal and black

  • Decoration method: genuine leather patch, flat or 3D puff embroidery, screen print or DTF

  • Logo size and placement on the front, side or back

  • Thread or print colors

  • For leather patch hats: patch shape and size. Standard shapes are rectangle (3 x 2 in), square (2.5 in), circle (2.5 in), hexagon (3 x 2 in), buckle (3 x 2 in) and octagon (3 x 2.25 in). Patches max out at 3.5 x 2.5 in.

What file should I send?

Vector files (.AI, .EPS, .PDF or .SVG) are best. A high-resolution PNG works too. If all you have is a phone photo of your sign or truck door, send it anyway and we will tell you whether it needs to be redrawn before it can be engraved or embroidered.

Why a proof matters

  • Catches size problems: fine text that reads well on a business card can disappear on a 2.5 inch patch.

  • Catches color problems: thread colors and leather tones look different from screen colors.

  • Locks in what you get: the approved proof is the spec we build to, so there are no surprises at pickup.

Frequently asked questions

Is the proof really free?

Yes. There is no charge and no obligation. If you decide not to order, you owe nothing.

Do I pay before I see a proof?

No. You see and approve the proof first. Payment is due before production starts.

How many changes can I make?

Revisions to the proof are free. Tell us what to change and we send an updated mockup.

Can I see my logo on a hat before I contact you?

Yes. Our Build Your Hat tool lets you upload your logo and see a live leather patch hat preview. We still send a final proof before anything is made.

Does approving the proof lock my price?

Quotes are good for 30 days from the date we send them.
